Problem with UK SQL Server "Deimos"
Posted on 28 December 2014 07:20 AM

Overnight tonight there has been disruption on our UK SQL Server. The problem has been identified as a hardware issue. The timing of this is unfortunate, as the server was due to be replaced by a new higher spec server during the SQL Server 2014 upgrade in 3 days time.

Because of this, and the fact that the new server was already ready and prepared for the migration, the quickest way to recover from this hardware failure was to perform the migration early, as everything was already in place for it. This has now been completed, and all UK SQL Server databases on our shared and reseller hosting are now moved to SQL Server 2014 on new hardware.

We apologise for the disruption that this has caused overnight and we have worked as quickly as possible to fix the problem. Because the migration has been completed, it does mean that those customers on shared and reseller hosting in the UK will now not need the maintenance that was scheduled to take place on the 31st December.

Customers with databases on our US servers and our Low Density service are unaffected by these issues and their migration will take place as scheduled on the 31st December.

Again, please accept our apologies for these issues. At this time, with the migration completed, all services appear to be functioning normally and the migration was fully successful. However, if you are seeing any issues with your database after the move to SQL Server 2014, please open a ticket at https://support.liquidsix.com and we can assist you.

"Poodle" Vulnerability in SSL
Posted on 16 October 2014 02:32 PM

As you may have read recently in the media, a flaw has been discovered in the SSL v3 protocol that leaves SSL vulnerable to having the secure data decrypted and read by third parties.

In order to protect our customers and their visitors, we have disabled the SSL v3 protocol on all servers. This will not affect most people, as only very old browsers still use this protocol. The newer protocols remain secure and available for use. If you have any trouble accessing SSL sites, please ensure that you update your browser to the latest version.

Network Issues in UK - Updated 19:30
Posted on 29 September 2014 02:26 PM

Today there have been some issues with connectivity into our UK network. Most of these issues are now solved, however there may still be an issue with some sites hosted on the UK server "Elara" which we are working on.

If you are still seeing any issues, please do not hesitate to contact us.

UPDATE 17.25: We are still working on problems with some sites on Elara. The sites affected are those using the IP Address 89.238.162.82. We are working with our network provider to try to permanently solve this problem.

UPDATE 17.45: We have confirmed that the problem is a denial of service attack against 89.238.162.82. As the attack is against the IP itself and not a specific website, there is no way to tell what website the attack is directed against. In an attempt to get around the problem, we are currently changing the IP address of all sites on 89.238.162.82 that we control the DNS for to 89.238.162.45. Due to the nature of the attack, we can not be sure that this will solve the problem as they may switch to attacking the new IP. For this reason we are not yet making the change permanent and communicating it to customers using other DNS servers as it may need to be changed again at short notice. The websites will continue to listen on 89.238.162.82 as well when the attack can be controlled. We are monitoring what happens after this change to decide what the next step will be.

UPDATE 19:30: All sites are currently working from either IP address. We are monitoring the situation to ensure that this continues.
